Yes I know, I know. There are millions of articles out there about working smarter. Some people would suggest we’d significantly increase productivity and the quality of work if we simply got on with it, instead of reading so many articles on time management tips.
BUT, a recent AFR article by Rachel Nickless is well worth your time. She cites the story of a person with so much happening in her life that she went to bed with notebook & pen to ensure she could make ‘to do’ notes whenever she woke through the night. I’d be tempted to laugh….but that’s been me as well.
This night-time note taker (in the AFR article) enlisted the help of an efficiency expert who had been hired by organisations like Westpac & AMP. She learned how to work smart not hard. Rachel’s article lists 9 time management tips – tips we all know about but don’t always use. The biggest time-waster tends to be emails and we all know of people consumed by their poor email habits.
In my case I’ve found a Pomodoro Timer to be a great tool to assist in working smart as it allows me to chunk my activities into 25 minute blocks.
