Position Overview
Position Title: Director Staff Services
Reports to: Principal
Position Purpose
To be responsible and accountable for the efficient and effective management of HR systems, processes and practices within the College.
Key Responsibilities
- Contributes as a member of the College Executive.
- Developing and managing systems and processes for recruitment, selection and induction of new staff.
- Developing and managing systems and processes which ensure that the College satisfies relevant employee/industrial relations legislation.
- In conjunction with the Principal and the Director Professional Learning, ensure that appropriate systems and processes are in place regarding staff professional review.
- Maintain staff information appropriately.
- Facilitate the program for leadership development at the College for leaders and middle management and provide strategic input at discussions with the Principal and the Director Professional Learning regarding this work.
- Provide opportunities for professional development for support staff.
- Foster a positive work environment.
- Develop and maintain a Human Resources annual budget.
At a later stage in this project, you will be provided a full position description. You will also be briefed on the success criteria for the first 12 months in the role.
Key Relationships
The role reports to the Principal and manages a team of 7 people: Reception x3; Print Room Manager; and Mercy House staff x3. The role is a member of the College Executive.

Reason for Vacancy
The incumbent has resigned after 10 years with Monte.
Commencement
Commencement date is negotiable, however ideally it would be in January 2026.

Monte Sant’ Angelo Mercy College is in the heart of North Sydney, at 128 Miller Street.
Conditions of Employment
- Remuneration will be discussed as we step through the process.
- Salary packaging arrangements are available.
- This is a full time, ongoing position.
- There is an annual performance management process.
- As a member of the College Executive, work outside standard College operating hours (8am – 4pm, Monday – Friday) is expected as an inherent requirement of this role.
- Four weeks annual leave plus up to five additional days granted with school closure between Christmas and New Year, and Easter.
- Access to the ‘Monte Active’ wellbeing program, with gym and pool use.
- Parking is provided.
- Working from home is not an option for this role.
- The usual 6-month probationary period applies.
- Prior to appointment the successful applicant will complete a Police Check and possess a current, approved Working With Children Check.
Selection Criteria
We invite expressions of interest from people who align with the following:
- The desire & capacity to work in a Catholic school setting.
- A ‘compassionate heart’, with personal values to align with the Mercy values.
- Experience as a generalist HR practitioner with exposure to:
- Operating at the strategic and operational/hands-on level
- Delivering change, including reviewing or introducing systems & processes
- Working in a unionised setting
- Compliance legislation: WHS, Industrial Relations, and, ideally, Safeguarding and Child Protection.
- A record of service combined with knowledge of, or the desire to learn and understand, how HR can support staff to provide better teaching and learning outcomes for students.
- Degree in HR, IR, Law or other relevant qualification with a record of continuing professional development including, for example, membership of AHRI.
We are seeking an experienced generalist HR practitioner, ideally with experience in Education, n-f-p or Professional Services, who has the desire to develop their career within a setting of professional learning, collaboration, and a culture that values innovation and reflection.
