With a student enrolment of 1,200 and total staff of approx. 190, Monte Sant’ Angelo Mercy College (Monte) is an independent Catholic secondary day school for girls, Years 7-12, inspired by the charism of the Sisters of Mercy.

For 150 years, Monte has proudly been a pillar of excellence in North Sydney, dedicated to the education and empowerment of young women.

Academic Structure

Monte offers senior students the choice of studying either the NSW Higher School Certificate or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

The Monte teaching and learning framework enables young women to benefit from inquiry-based, student-centred strategies to provide a comprehensive and balanced education.

Governance

Monte is under the canonical sponsorship and civil ownership of Mercy Partners. The ministry was entrusted to Mercy Partners by the Sisters of Mercy, North Sydney in November 2023. The operations of the College remain under the governance of the Monte Board and the College Principal.

Position Overview

Position Title: Deputy Principal Curriculum

Reports to: College Principal

Position Scope

The Deputy Principal, Curriculum is responsible for the provision of a high quality, effective and innovative academic program in Years 7 – 12. This Executive role leads the development and delivery of curriculum, including NESA, HSC and IB programs and oversees all aspects of high-quality teaching and learning ensuring alignment with the College’s strategic plan and best practices.

The Deputy Principal, Curriculum will be a strategic thinker, capable of earning the respect of both staff and students and building effective working relationships. The person in this role will be an experienced manager with skills in balancing delegation and accountability and capable of managing and guiding a talented team of middle leaders including Heads of Department and other College leaders.

With the existing Deputy Principal, Curriculum continuing as Deputy Principal, Administration at the College, there is the opportunity for an extended handover period to ensure the future success of the person in this position.

At a later stage in this project, you will be provided a full position description. You will also be briefed on the success criteria for the first 12 months in the role.

Staffing Structure

Staff managed:

  • Higher Education and Careers Advisor

Regular liaison with:

  • Director Senior School/IB DP Coordinator
  • Director Middle School/IB MYP Coordinator
  • Director Professional Learning

Reason for Vacancy

The retirement of a member of the College Executive has provided an opportunity to reassign responsibilities and therefore create an opening for a new team member.

Commencement

A commencement in January 2026 is anticipated – 16th January for an Executive Planning Day. Periodic availability in term 4 2025 would assist with a smooth changeover.

Location

Monte Sant’ Angelo Mercy College is located in the heart of North Sydney, at 128 Miller Street.

Conditions of Employment

  • Remuneration will be discussed as we step through the process.
  • Salary packaging arrangements are available.
  • The term of the appointment is five years with a review in Term 3 of final year. If successful, renewable for further three years. If not successful, leadership position ceases at end of fifth year and reverts to a teaching role. At end of further three years (as above), leadership role will be subject to ongoing annual review.
  • As a member of the College Executive, availability in week after the end of Term 4 and the week before beginning of Term 1 is expected as well as availability during the year to assist with staff management and recruitment processes.
  • The position has Leadership Allowance at Level 4, and includes a lesson allocation of 0.2 FTE
  • Parking is provided.
  • Prior to appointment the successful applicant will complete a Police Check and possess a current, approved Working With Children Check.

  • A track record of leading improvements in student learning outcomes, with practices which reflect contemporary pedagogy, collaboration and a student-centred approach to learning.
  • A thorough knowledge of assessment and reporting systems as well as NESA requirements.
  • A problem solver using data and analysis to inform strategy and focus, to enhance teaching and learning practice.
  • A commitment to ongoing personal and professional learning, particularly shown through post-graduate studies and professional development experiences.
