Following the recent announcement by Mr Mike Byrne that he will retire from this position in mid-2015, the Catholic Bishops of Queensland invite applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill this important leadership role in Queensland Catholic education.
The Queensland Catholic Education Commission is responsible for the co-ordination and advancement of Catholic education in Queensland. The Commission operates under formal delegations of authority from the Queensland Bishops and reports to the Bishops and the Congregational Leaders of Religious Institutes, Queensland.
In 2014, Catholic school authorities collectively provide P-12 education for some 144,000 Queensland students across 296 schools.
We anticipate that people interested in this role will be able to demonstrate:
- A genuine, deeply embedded Catholic faith and clearly committed to the values and teachings of the Catholic Church;
- A commitment to, and understanding of, the Church’s educational mission and the political environment in which Queensland Catholic education functions;
- Executive leadership experience, most likely in either Catholic education or a Catholic Church agency.
- Highly relational and capable of building and maintaining effective, cohesive relationships;
- The ability to appreciate and manage complex relationships with multiple interest groups;
- The capacity to represent Queensland Catholic education’s interests at the State and National levels;
- Highly developed communication, negotiation and advocacy skills.
