Is ‘chase your dream’ poor career advice for Gen Y?

My career advice to my children has been similar to that given by many Baby Boomers and could be summarised as ‘you can be whatever you want to be‘ and ‘chase your dream‘. As a recruiter I’ve seen many times when this advice has had a positive outcome but also many where the young person has finished disillusioned and frustrated. So, is ‘find your passion and chase it’ the best advice to give to Gen Y?
