Finance Council Members for SOSJ
Date : 13.12.2011
Job Reference: TS 1157
Job Type: Project completed
Job Location: Australia or New Zealand
The Congregation of the Sisters of St Joseph began in Penola, South Australia in 1866. The Josephite Charism, initially articulated by Mary MacKillop and Julian Tenison Woods, has been expressed in the vowed life since this time and has spread within Australia, New Zealand, Peru, Brazil, Scotland, Ireland and beyond.
The Sisters of St Joseph have always had a centralised structure, expressed through a collaborative style of leadership. For the sake of their ongoing and growing mission, the Congregational Leadership Team has decided to establish a Congregational Finance Council and now seeks four external people for a 3-year appointment, commencing in the last quarter of this year.
The Finance Council will be an advisory body which is likely to meet six times each year to consider and tender advice to the Congregation in aspects such as budgets, financial statements and reports; policy development; property; risk management; and longer term strategic financial management and planning. The Finance Council will be assisted by an Executive Committee which includes professional staff employed by the Sisters.
We anticipate that males and females interested in joining the Finance Council will be able to demonstrate:
- regardless of faith background, an affinity with the mission of the Sisters of St Joseph combined with the desire and preparedness to work within their ethos and spirituality;
- senior leadership experience and expertise in areas such as banking; finance; investment; property; accounting; risk management; strategic financial planning; or civil law;
- experience as a member of an executive committee; finance committee; non-executive director; or similar role;
- highest levels of integrity;
- an openness to new ideas and different viewpoints, with a capacity for innovation and creativity.
People throughout Australia and New Zealand are encouraged to consider this opportunity to contribute to the Sisters’ mission. While these are not employed positions, the Sisters have suggested that members may be paid an honorarium.
